That cold front forecasters have been tracking all day is doing exactly what it was supposed to do — dragging a line of showers from northwest to southeast across the region through this evening. Auburn and Penn Yan are already seeing light rain, with Bath and the southern tier close behind. Temperatures have tumbled quickly from today’s warm highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, and most of us will be sitting in the low-to-mid 50s by 8 PM.
Overnight, showers taper off as the front pushes east. Skies clear behind it, and northwest winds keep things chilly. Lows drop into the low-to-mid 40s across most of the region — upper 40s near Watkins Glen and Corning, closer to 42° in Auburn. No frost concerns tonight, but keep a light jacket handy Saturday morning.
Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend: dry, sunny, and cool, with highs likely topping out in the upper 50s to low 60s. Enjoy it — clouds and warmer, unsettled conditions return Sunday into early next week.
