Weather forecast for the Finger Lakes: Cold Front Brings Overnight Showers, Cooler Friday Ahead

That warm, breezy afternoon is winding down. Temperatures across the Finger Lakes climbed into the mid-60s to low 70s today — Canandaigua touched 72° — fueled by downslope winds and strong warm air advection ahead of an approaching cold front. Enjoy the mildness while it lasts.

A cold front tracking in from the Great Lakes will stall just northwest of the region overnight, dragging a broken line of showers into the area. Expect scattered rain between roughly 9 PM and early Friday morning. Nothing heavy, but keep that in mind for late-night plans.

Behind the front, Friday brings cooler conditions with additional shower chances, especially in the morning. Lows tonight will drop to the upper 30s in the southern valleys — Corning and Watkins Glen near 36–38° — so gardeners with tender plants should bring them in.

The good news: a warming trend is expected to build late this weekend into early next week.
