A Canandaigua man is facing multiple charges following an incident on South Main Street last week.

According to the Canandaigua Police Department, 40-year-old Christopher Waldron was arrested around 10:25 p.m. June 23 after officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person on South Main Street.

Police say Waldron was found near the intersection of South Main and Green streets in possession of an open alcoholic beverage. Officers determined he was intoxicated to the point that he was unable to care for himself and took him into custody under the state’s mental hygiene law.

While in the back of a patrol vehicle, police allege Waldron threatened to harm the arresting officer, spat inside the vehicle, and repeatedly slammed his head against a window, causing a cut to his head. Authorities say blood and saliva contaminated the rear of the patrol vehicle, requiring extensive cleaning and sanitizing.

After receiving treatment at a hospital, Waldron was charged with third-degree criminal tampering, second-degree harassment, and an open container violation. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
