The Humane Society of Wayne County is asking for community support after taking in dozens of dogs connected to a recent seizure case.
According to the shelter, 25 dogs arrived on March 19, joining 18 already in their care. That brings the total number of dogs currently being housed to 43, all requiring daily feeding, medical treatment, and attention.
Shelter officials say staff members have been working extended hours to meet the increased demand, ensuring each animal is properly cared for. In the nearly two weeks since the dogs arrived, the organization has already spent thousands of dollars on veterinary needs, including treatment for internal parasites and flea prevention, along with routine care costs.
The Humane Society noted that there is no reimbursement mechanism for expenses related to seizure cases, meaning the financial burden falls entirely on the organization.
Officials are now asking the public for help through donations, fostering, and supplies. Financial contributions will go directly toward medical care and daily operations, while needed supplies include dog food, towels, leashes, and bedding.
The shelter is also encouraging community members to consider fostering dogs temporarily to help ease overcrowding and to share the organizationโs message to reach a wider audience.
Officials say community support is critical as they continue caring for the large number of animals.
