A 90-year-old woman who police say was raped and assaulted inside her Corning apartment has died.

Corning Police announced the woman died Monday, one week after 29-year-old Jonathan Rivaldo was identified and arrested in connection with the attack.

Rivaldo is now charged with three counts of first-degree rape, along with one count each of burglary, tampering with physical evidence and intimidating a victim. Police said Rivaldo was processed and taken to the Steuben County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

Authorities have not said whether the woman’s death could result in additional charges.
