An overnight house fire in the Town of Dryden claimed the lives of two people early Friday morning, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Lake Road at approximately 12:21 a.m. following reports of a structure fire.
When first responders arrived, deputies, along with members of the Dryden Fire Department and Dryden Ambulance, located the home’s occupants. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and as firefighters continued their operations, a second deceased victim was discovered inside the residence.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fire in coordination with the Dryden Fire Department, mutual aid fire departments, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and other assisting agencies.
Officials said the identities of the victims are being withheld pending identification and notification of their family members.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
