Seneca County Emergency Management will distribute N95 masks at several locations beginning Thursday as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect the region’s air quality.
The smoke has increased levels of fine particulate matter, prompting an Air Quality Health Advisory. All residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities while the advisory remains in effect.
Emergency management officials said N95 masks can reduce exposure to airborne particles from wildfire smoke. Residents with chronic health conditions who cannot avoid outdoor activity are especially encouraged to use a mask.
Masks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning July 16 at the following locations:
- Seneca County Fair
- Waterloo Library and Historical Society, 31 East Williams Street, Waterloo
- Seneca Falls Community Center, 35 Water Street, Seneca Falls
- Edith B. Ford Memorial Library, 7169 Main Street, Ovid
Officials did not specify how many masks will be available at each location.
