A chaotic early-morning incident in Onondaga County left two people dead and two others injured after an erratic driver struck multiple individuals before being shot by a New York State Trooper.
According to the New York State Police, troopers were called around 1:37 a.m. Sunday to Shute Road in the Town of LaFayette for a report of a driver traveling through residential yards at a high rate of speed.
Investigators say a female driver operating a 2016 Subaru struck a female victim before police arrival. A male witness attempted to stop the vehicle by positioning his car behind it, but the suspect allegedly backed into his vehicle.
When troopers arrived, authorities say the driver continued dangerously operating the vehicle, striking the female victim again and hitting a second man who was attempting to help. Police say the driver ignored repeated commands to stop.
A trooper then discharged their service weapon, striking the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. She was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where she later died.
The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two male victims were also taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The New York State Office of the Attorney General has been notified and responded to the scene.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
