Ithaca Police Investigating Death of Bus Passenger

Ithaca Police are investigating the death of a man who suffered a medical emergency aboard a bus that had traveled from New York City to Ithaca early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:11 a.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of East Seneca Street for a medical assist call.  When officers arrived, they assisted the Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance personnel, who were treating an unresponsive man seated on a transportation bus. The man was identified as 52-year-old Anthony Zeigler of Ithaca.

Police said the bus had traveled from New York City to Ithaca, making one stop in Binghamton along the way.

Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures at the scene and continued treatment while transporting Zeigler to Cayuga Medical Center. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said the cause of death remains under investigation and has not yet been determined. Authorities also emphasized that there is no danger to the public.
