Five people were arrested after New York State Police responded to a reported fight involving a firearm in the Village of Lyons and recovered two loaded handguns, including one that had been reported stolen.
According to State Police, troopers were dispatched at approximately 4:56 p.m. on June 30 to the area of William and Queen streets for a report of a physical altercation involving multiple people.
Investigators determined the incident began as a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, police allege one of the occupants of a vehicle displayed a handgun and threatened a victim while preventing others from intervening.
Troopers quickly located the suspect vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Trax, and conducted a traffic stop on Geneva Street in the Town of Lyons. All five occupants were taken into custody without incident.
During a protective frisk and subsequent search of the vehicle, troopers recovered two loaded handguns. Police said one was a 9mm CZ P-07 equipped with a conversion kit and laser attachment. The second was a Ruger .45-caliber pistol that had been reported stolen to the Rochester Police Department in September 2024. Investigators also seized multiple high-capacity magazines and ammunition.
Arrested were:
- Justin Letts, 20, of Geneva
- Brandon Thomas, 19, of Waterloo
- Najib Brown, 21, of Waterloo
- Harmonajah Shorter, 20, of Waterloo
- Latrell Graves, 19, of Savannah
All five were charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Letts was also charged with second-degree menacing.
The suspects were processed at the State Police barracks in Lyons before being transported to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment.
The investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation remains ongoing.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
