A Cayuga County jury has convicted an inmate of throwing urine on a nurse and a correction officer at Auburn Correctional Facility.
Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that a jury found 39-year-old Levar Murray guilty of two counts of aggravated harassment of an employee by an incarcerated individual following a trial that concluded Thursday. The jury, made up of nine women and three men, returned its verdict shortly before 1 p.m.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred on January 10, 2024, while Murray was housed in the Special Housing Unit at Auburn Correctional Facility. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Murray threw urine on a registered nurse and a correction officer as the nurse was delivering medication to his cell.
Murray is currently incarcerated at Attica Correctional Facility, where he is serving a nine-year prison sentence stemming from Kings County convictions for attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25 in Cayuga County Court. Murray faces a maximum sentence of 2½ to 5 years in state prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Under New York law, any sentence imposed in the case must be served consecutively to his current prison term.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher T. Valdina prosecuted the case.
