The discovery of human remains along the Lake Ontario shoreline is under investigation in Wolcott.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded on July 11 after kayakers reported seeing what appeared to be a human foot wearing a hiking boot on the breakwall at Blind Sodus Bay. When deputies arrived, they confirmed the report and recovered the remains.

The foot was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, where investigators are working to determine its identity and the circumstances surrounding the case.

The Sheriff’s Office said it is coordinating the investigation with several law enforcement agencies, including authorities in Canada, as efforts continue to identify the remains.

No additional information has been released.
