Cleanup and power restoration efforts are continuing after a severe storm caused widespread damage across the Village of Victor Saturday afternoon.
Village officials said the storm moved through the community at approximately 3:30 p.m., bringing intense winds, heavy rain, hail and near-whiteout conditions. Numerous trees and utility poles were knocked down.
There has been no official determination regarding the specific type of weather event.
Village Department of Public Works crews spent several hours clearing roads and addressing damage Saturday before returning Sunday morning. Cleanup is expected to continue over the coming days as crews remove debris, repair public infrastructure and restore safe travel.
RG&E crews are also working to restore electricity to affected customers.
The Victor and Bushnell’s Basin fire departments, Town of Victor Emergency Management, town and village highway and code enforcement personnel, Ontario County Emergency Management, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and emergency dispatchers assisted with the response.
Residents are urged to use caution while traveling because downed trees, limbs and utility lines may remain. All downed wires should be considered dangerous and reported immediately by calling 911.
Property owners are advised to contact their insurance provider before removing debris or making major repairs to determine whether photographs or other documentation will be needed for a claim.
Victor Village Hall will be open during regular business hours Monday. Public works crews will continue cleanup operations throughout the village.
