With the start of the new school year fast approaching, how is work progressing on the Auburn Enlarged City School District’s Capital Improvement projects?
Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Superintendent Jeff Priozzolo said work is largely complete on the various projects throughout the district with most of them slated for completion next week.
At the high school, 27 rooftop air handling units have been installed and are now operational. Work on the bus loop and staff parking lot is nearly complete, according to Pirozzolo.
“The high school is pretty much done. All they have to do is all the striping.”
Additionally, Owasco Elementary’s playground upgrades and roofing work at Genesee Elementary are anticipated to be completed by the end of the week.
Pirozzolo added that two projects most likely won’t be completed before school starts on September 3.
“The only things that’ve got to be completed is the parking lot over at Seward [Elementary]. That will be done by probably the end of September, and our main office and secure vestibule at the junior high, which will probably be done between mid-September and the end of September.”
Seward is adding a new parking lot between the Pop Warner football field and the west side of the school with a loop allowing parents to drop off their children. The loop’s exit would align with Mary Street.
City Council has approved changing the intersection of Mary Street and Metcalf Drive to coincide with this project, adding a four-way stop and crosswalks to it to improve pedestrian and driver safety. Along with this, the council is also barring on-street parking on Metcalf Drive between 7:00-9:00a and 2:00-4:00p,
This will be the last Capital Improvement project Pirozzolo will oversee for the district as he will retire in January, passing the role of superintendent on to Dr Misty Slavic.
