It’s now official; Auburn has its next superintendent.
The Board of Education approved Doctor Misty Slavic’s contract at its Tuesday night meeting. Her appointment will become effective on September 1.
Dr. Slavic takes over for Jeff Pirozzolo who announced in January that he will retire on January 5, 2025.
Following the announcement of Pirozzolo’s retirement, the board opened applications for a new superintendent with nearly 20 people applying. The field was narrowed to five applicants who spent a day in the district to engage with four stakeholder committees. From there, two finalists were selected – Doctors Misty Slavic and Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan.
Earlier this month, the board announced it had chosen Dr. Slavic as its next superintendent.
Katie Tucker is also joining the district as Seward Elementary’s new principal.
