With early voting just around the corner, one of three people running for Cayuga County Clerk has picked up another endorsement.

Jim Orman is the current Mayor of Aurora and former Cayuga County treasurer. He has endorsed Brian Scanlan for the county clerk.

Citing his work with the Auburn Fire Department and community events like the Saint Baldrick’s fundraiser, Orman believes Scanlan has the leadership skills necessary for the job.

“Brian Scanlan’s service to his community as a Captain in the Auburn Fire Department allowed him to develop strong leadership skills.  His continued involvement with many community events, including overseeing the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser for children’s cancer, speaks highly to his dedication to Cayuga County residents.” Jim Orman said in a press release.

Scanlan is an independent who is running on Democratic and Cayuga County United ballot lines. Orman, a Republican, said his choice is about putting Scanlan’s professionalism above party affiliation.

“As with the office of the County Treasurer, political affiliation shouldn’t be the driving force to choose our next County Clerk.  This office, which is already operating at a high level, requires someone with Brian’s skills to continue this.  Brian Scanlan brings that fresh professional perspective to maintain and expand upon the services to the taxpayers.  I am proud to support Brian Scanlan to carry this office forward.” added Orman.

Scanlan faces off against Republican Chris Petrus and Conservative Kristine Lytle.

Scanlan has also picked up the endorsements of 1199SEIU, the union representing area healthcare workers, and the city’s firefighters union, IAFF Local #1446.

Lytle, who is currently a member of the DMV Supervisory Team, has received the endorsement of CSEA Central Region 5, the union representing county employees, and the Cayuga County Town Highway Superintendents Association.

Chris Petrus boasts the support of Sue Dwyer, the current county clerk.

Election day is Tuesday, November 7, and early voting begins this Saturday.
