Rochester Regional Health has begun construction on a new $17.5 million Orthopedic and Neurosciences Center in Canandaigua, a project aimed at expanding access to specialized orthopedic, spine, and neurological care throughout the Finger Lakes region.

The new center is being developed within an existing 39,000-square-foot building at 183 Parrish Street and is expected to open in spring 2027.

Once completed, the facility will serve as a centralized destination for orthopedic care, neurology, spine services, pain management, imaging, and outpatient surgery.

The project will consolidate several Rochester Regional Health practices currently operating at separate locations in Canandaigua, including Canandaigua Orthopedic Associates, Finger Lakes Bone and Joint, and the Spine and Pain Center.

In addition to physician offices and diagnostic services, the building will house a new Ambulatory Surgery Center and Hospital Outpatient Department. Plans call for four operating rooms and 16 pre- and post-procedure bays, allowing patients to undergo a variety of outpatient procedures closer to home.

Jennifer Eslinger, chief operating officer for Rochester Regional Health, said the project is designed to improve convenience and coordination for patients seeking specialty care.

“Patients deserve access to high-quality specialty care without having to navigate multiple locations for appointments, imaging, and procedures,” Eslinger said.

Officials say the center will feature 32 exam rooms and on-site imaging services, including MRI, X-ray, and DEXA technology, allowing patients to receive diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care in a single location.

Dr. Gordon Whitbeck Jr., executive medical director of Rochester Regional Health Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, said the facility will create a comprehensive destination for orthopedic patients while supporting the latest treatment technologies and collaborative care.

Dr. Sowmya Lakshminarayanan, executive medical director of neurosciences, said the project will improve care for patients with conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system by bringing multiple specialties together under one roof.

Health system officials say the project reflects Rochester Regional Health’s ongoing investment in expanding access to advanced specialty care across the Finger Lakes region and improving the patient experience.

Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2027.
