A Schuyler County man has been sentenced to jail and probation after being convicted of damaging a residence while a child was inside.
Schuyler County District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan announced that Chad Simmons, 47, of Burdett, was sentenced June 11 in Schuyler County Court after being found guilty of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a Class E felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor.
Judge Matthew C. Hayden sentenced Simmons to six months in jail followed by five years of probation. Simmons was also ordered to pay $2,784.32 in restitution to the victim, and an order of protection was issued.
According to prosecutors, Simmons caused damage to the front door and a window of a residence after being denied entry. Authorities said Simmons kicked the front door and threw an item through a window, causing damage to both.
Prosecutors said Simmons engaged in the conduct while aware that a child was present inside the residence.
The case was investigated by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Schuyler County District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan.
