An investigation is underway after an inmate died early Monday at the Seneca County Jail.

According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, correction officers were conducting routine mandatory checks at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Monday when they found an inmate unresponsive and not breathing inside his cell.

South Seneca Ambulance was immediately called to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center. Despite emergency response efforts, the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

The deceased individual has been identified as 62-year-old Edward Timblin of Seneca Falls.

The Sheriff’s Office said Timblin was alone in his cell at the time of his death. A preliminary investigation indicates he suffered a medical emergency that led to his death.

The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the New York State Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation and the Seneca County Coroner’s Office.

Officials said additional information will be released once the investigation is complete.
