The Auburn Enlarged City School District is responding after a series of posts regarding an incident involving a student and staff member appeared on social media earlier this week.

In a letter to the community, Superintendent of Schools Dr Misty Slavic said the staff member involved is receiving “care and support, and we are making sure they have access to the resources they need during this time.”

Because the incident involves a student, Slavic added that the district is limited in what it can share as it is legally and ethically required to protect the student’s privacy.

The letter went on to say that the incident has been reviewed carefully, noting that “situations involving students with significant needs can be complex and require trained, thoughtful responses.” Slavic said a review found no indication of malicious intent.

Slavic said that some information shared on social media is “incomplete or inaccurate and does not reflect the full context of what occurred.” She also expressed concern over the language and tone used in some of the online comments, finding it concerning and reminding the community that the situation involves a child.

Over the past few days, posts have appeared on social media regarding an alleged incident where a staff member was attacked by a student, requiring medical attention.
