The Cheshire Fire Department gathered on Monday to celebrate and honor longtime member Jack Adams for his more than 55 years of service to the department and the community.
Adams and his wife, Janice, will soon relocate to Florida to be closer to family, marking the end of an era for one of the department’s most influential members.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, Adams played a pivotal role in shaping emergency medical services in the area. He was the founding member of Cheshire’s Rescue Squad in the late 1970s and was instrumental in building the program from the ground up. His efforts included coordinating equipment purchases, organizing training and certifications for members, and placing a 1980 van into service as the department’s first rescue vehicle.
Fire officials said Adams’ vision and dedication helped establish the foundation of the emergency medical services that continue to serve residents and visitors in the Towns of Canandaigua and South Bristol today.
During the celebration, Adams reflected on his decades of service, telling those in attendance that serving the community was one of the best decisions he ever made.
Department members credited Adams with mentoring generations of firefighters and emergency medical personnel while consistently putting the needs of the community first.
In a statement, the Cheshire Fire Department thanked Adams for his decades of commitment and service, noting that his legacy will continue to inspire future members of the department.
The department also extended its best wishes to Jack and Janice as they begin the next chapter of their lives in Florida.
