A Syracuse man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a domestic violence investigation in the Town of Sennett.
According to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck, deputies arrested 23-year-old Nareik Lassiter on Saturday following an incident at a residence in Sennett. Deputies were dispatched to the residence at approximately 4:38 p.m. for a reported physical domestic dispute. Investigators allege that during an argument, the victim locked herself inside a vehicle. Lassiter allegedly broke a window of the vehicle, causing the victim to exit, and then punched and kicked her.
Authorities said the victim attempted to call 911, but Lassiter allegedly took her cellphone and damaged it. The victim then reportedly locked herself in a bathroom inside the residence. Investigators say Lassiter punched the bathroom door and stabbed it with a knife while she remained inside.
The Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred in the presence of three children under the age of 17.
Lassiter was charged with Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Menacing in the Third Degree, Attempted Assault in the Third Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. According to investigators, Lassiter has a prior domestic violence-related conviction, resulting in the Aggravated Family Offense charge and elevating the weapon possession charge to a felony.
Lassiter was arraigned through Cayuga County’s Centralized Arraignment Process, where an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim. He was sent to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of bail.
