clydeMore than 600 cyclists from across the United States and Canada will roll into Seneca Falls on Tuesday as part of the 28th annual Cycle the Erie Canal bike tour.

Organized by Parks & Trails New York, the state’s largest multi-day bicycle tour began July 11 in Buffalo and will conclude July 19 in Albany. During the nine-day journey, riders ranging in age from 8 to 86 will travel approximately 400 miles along the Erie Canalway Trail, averaging 40 to 60 miles each day while visiting historic canal communities, local businesses, and landmarks across New York.

Tuesday’s 51.4-mile ride begins in Fairport, where cyclists will depart Center Park West between 7 and 9 a.m.

The first stop of the day will be at Muddy Waters Cafe in Palmyra between 8 and 11 a.m. Riders will then continue to Clyde Village Park, where they’ll stop from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new hydration station at the park is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The day’s ride will conclude at the Seneca Falls Elks Lodge on River Road, where participants will spend the night before continuing east on the tour.

In addition to Fairport, Seneca Falls, and Clyde, this year’s tour includes stops in Medina, Syracuse, Rome, Canajoharie, Schenectady, and Albany, giving participants an opportunity to experience the history, culture, and scenery of communities along the Erie Canal.
