The Breast Cancer Coalition will host a free webinar, “Dental Health During and After Cancer Treatment,” on Wednesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. Cynthia Kuang, DDS, RN, will lead the session, which is part of the organization’s Evening Education Webinar Series.
Cancer treatment can affect various parts of the body, including oral health. Individuals undergoing treatment for breast or gynecologic cancer may experience side effects such as sensitive teeth, dry mouth, mouth sores, tooth decay, gum inflammation, changes in taste, or jaw discomfort. These side effects may continue after treatment concludes.
“Many people don’t realize that cancer treatment can have lasting effects on oral health, but with the right knowledge and coordinated care, many of these complications can be prevented or managed,” said Dr. Kuang. “I hope this webinar empowers patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers with strategies to protect oral health and improve quality of life throughout the cancer journey.”
The webinar will cover how cancer treatments can affect oral health, practical strategies to protect teeth and gums during treatment, how to care for oral health after treatment, when to see a dentist, and how dental providers and cancer care teams can collaborate to support patients’ long-term oral health.
The Evening Educational Webinar Series is supported by the Lee C. Rosenthal Memorial Education Fund. ASL interpretation will be provided during the 90-minute session, which includes at least 30 minutes for questions.
