AUBURN | Bernard W. â€œBernieâ€? VanEpps, 83, of Stryker Avenue, Auburn, left us here to go to his heavenly home, on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. With his family by his side, he passed away at Auburn Community Hospital. Born in Rochester on Feb. 23, 1929, he was the son of Bernard and Theolinda Smith VanEpps. â€œBud,â€? as he was affectionately known, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during the Korean War. â€œBudâ€? worked as a service technician for over 42 years. He began his career with Commercial Controls of Rochester and relocated to Electromode, Singer, McQuay in Auburn, where he retired in 1994. He enjoyed wood working and projects around the home, as well as bowling, boating, and fishing. â€œBernieâ€? is survived by his loving wife, Joyce White VanEpps, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary, on March 22, 2013. He was also a loving father to his sons, Stephen VanEpps, of Rochester, Gregory VanEpps, of Weedsport, and Mark VanEpps and his wife, Sue, of Union Springs. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Connor, Taylor and Mackenzie; two sisters, Shirley Urquhart, of Fairport and Theola â€œMitzieâ€? Roberts and her husband, Howard, of North Rose; several sister and brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, good friends and special thanks to Melanie Bassett, his co-caregiver. In addition to his parents, Bernard was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ashley; a sister, Bernadine Miller and a brother, Arthur VanEpps. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Burial with Military Honors will be in Soule Cemetery, Sennett. Friends are invited to call on the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at White Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Bernard W. VanEpps may be made to the Owasco Fire Department, 7174 Owasco Road, Auburn, NY 13021.
