Richard E. Delaney
Richard Delaney died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Fleming, Richard spent his whole life living in the area. He attended Union Springs High School and after graduating high school, Richard spent three years in the Navy stationed aboard the USS Saratoga. Upon returning home, he began a 13-year career at the Auburn Prison while simultaneously building his farm. He eventually retired from the prison to focus entirely on farming, proudly carrying on a multi-generational legacy passed down from his father and grandfather. Throughout his life, Richard truly treasured the long hours spent working the fields alongside his son, Mark.
Above all else, Richard loved his family. He cherished their regular Sunday dinners together, and he was known for his fondness for sweets of all kinds. He also enjoyed an occasional glass of Black Velvet.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Etta Ryan; his children, Mary Ann (Richard), Jackie, Mark (Kris), Sandy (Jeff), and Matt (Juliana); his grandchildren, Brad (Gaby), Kelly, Delaney (John Michael), Catherine (Scott), Hayden (Emma), Casey, Reagan, and Molly; and his great-grandchildren, Sofia, Justin, Waylon, Lucy, and Raine. He was predeceased by his parents, Molly and William; his parents-in-law, Josephine and Frederick Ryan; and his siblings, William, Frederick, and Vera.
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, calling hours will be held from 3-5 PM at Farrell's Funeral Service Inc, 84 South Street, Auburn. A Prayer Service will be held at 5 PM with Reverend David E. White, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated group of women who helped care for Richard during the final chapter of his life. They are also profoundly thankful to his daughter, Jackie, for devoting so much of her time to his care and comfort.
The omission of flowers is suggested with memorials going to Fleming Fire Department 1 or 2.
