Richard J. Nielson FARMINGTON/GENEVA - Richard J. Nielson, 78, of Farmington, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Friends may call on Thursday, November 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 2, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Victor-Farmington Ambulance Corps. Richard was born in Clifton Springs and resided in Geneva for many years before moving to Ogdensburg and later Farmington. He was the son of the late James and Ina Windburn Nielson. He was retired from Mobil Oil Corporation and served in the Co. B 108th Infantry of the National Guard for several years. He was a member of the American Legion in Ogdensburg and North Seneca Sportsman Club, where he loved to hunt and fish. He attended St. Patrick's Church in Victor. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Newmiller Nielson; children, Michael (Mary Ann) Nielson of Shortsville and Susan (Rick Reeder) Keuer of Romulus, N.Y.; LuAnn (Phillip Mann) Nielson of Dannemora, N.Y.; Virginia (Terrence) Bolan of Farmington; Donna (Terry) Johnson of Columbia, S.C. and Mary Jo (Richard) Iddings of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Marian) Nielson of Utica, N.Y.; sister, Doris Olsen of Florida; sister-in-law, Joyce Newmiller of Hilton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
