PENN YAN - Mildred E. Guinter, 92, passed away at Penn Yan Manor October 7, 2012.
Family and friends may call Friday (October 12) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weldon Funeral Home. A short service will follow at 7 p.m., burial will be in second Milo Cemetery at a further date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Penn Yan Manor Resident Fund, 655 N. Liberty Street, Penn Yan, N.Y., 14527.
Mildred was born on December 25, 1919 and spent the majority of her life in Baldwin, N.Y. She graduated from Adelphi College with her Bachelor's Degree and Columbia University with her Master's Degree in education after which she taught high school history at Woodmere High School. After her children were born, Mildred became an active volunteer in Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, she also served on the League for Women Voters and was a very active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Baldwin where she taught Sunday School for 25 years, she also continued as an active member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After her husband retired she moved to Connesstee Falls, Brevard, N.C. where she continued to serve her community by volunteering at Sharing House and devoted many hours to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Brevard. Mildred's abilities as a master seamstress were well known and she will also be remembered for her love of gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Daisy) Carlson of Penn Yan; her son, Richard (Camille) Guinter of Brevard, N.C.; her grandchildren, Karen (Fred) Kiechle of Lodi, Timothy (Candoce) Carlson of Bayonne, N.J. and Jennifer Guinter of Ashville, N.C.; her great-grandchildren, Alexandria Park of Lodi and Tobin Carlson of Bayonne, N.J.; two cousins, Dorothy Haughey of Rockville Center, N.Y. and Dorothy Carmen of Baldwin, N.Y.
In addition to her parents, Alma and Perk Bowers, she was predeceased by her loving husband, David (Dick) Guinter on July 6, 1995.
