Heat Advisory in Effect Now as Extreme Heat Watch Runs Through Friday

Bath is already seeing thunder at midday — and that’s the more immediate story right now, even as the bigger one is what builds behind it. Geneva sits at 86° just before noon, already within striking distance of today’s forecast high of 93°, with the hottest hours of the afternoon still ahead. A Heat Advisory covers the entire Finger Lakes through 8 PM tonight, and an Extreme Heat Watch takes over Wednesday through Friday evening as an upper-level ridge strengthens overhead, pushing highs toward 96° tomorrow and 98° Thursday.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible this afternoon as a warm front pushes through — NWS has been adjusting storm chances through the day to track what’s moving in from the west. If storms fire, hail is possible. Otherwise, heat and humidity dominate through the evening. Tonight’s lows stay oppressive, near 70° regionwide, offering little overnight relief.

Independence Day Saturday looks unsettled with a 38% storm chance and highs around 86° — cooler than the midweek peak, but fireworks visibility will depend on storm timing.
