The heat that pushed Watkins Glen to 94° this afternoon isn’t done yet — Tuesday will bring another round of summer-like temperatures across the Finger Lakes, with highs again reaching the upper 80s to low 90s inland. Overnight lows will drop into the low-to-mid 60s under clear skies, so no frost concerns tonight.
The bigger story is what arrives Tuesday evening. An upper-level ridge that’s been fueling this heat will shift east through the day, opening the door for widespread showers and thunderstorms by late afternoon and evening. The NWS Buffalo office has expanded a Slight Risk — Level 2 of 5 — for severe thunderstorms across the entire region Tuesday, with damaging winds the primary concern. That activity is expected to linger into Wednesday morning before a cold front sweeps through, dropping temperatures and ushering in drier, quieter conditions Wednesday afternoon through Friday.
Enjoy Tuesday morning while it lasts.
