A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tompkins, and Yates counties until 10 p.m. tonight. The watch covers Watkins Glen, Penn Yan, Ithaca, Corning, and Elmira. Conditions are favorable for strong to severe storms to develop this afternoon and early evening.

Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats from any storms that develop. Isolated tornadoes are also possible. Storms could move quickly, so conditions may change rapidly in your area. Keep a way to receive weather alerts handy — phone, radio, or television — and be ready to move to shelter if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for your location.
