Evening Storms Exit Region; Clear and Cool Night Ahead

Weather forecast for the Finger Lakes: Evening Storms Exit Region; Clear and Cool Night Ahead

The evening’s unsettled weather is winding down. A mid-level shortwave pushed a broken band of showers and embedded thunderstorms across the region this afternoon — the NWS Special Weather Statement covering Yates, Seneca, Schuyler, and Steuben counties expires at 6:30 PM, and conditions should improve quickly after that. Total rainfall was modest, generally 0.10″ to 0.25″, though a few spots near Watkins Glen and Corning may have seen slightly more where thunderstorms passed through.

Skies clear tonight as high pressure builds in. Lows drop into the mid-to-upper 40s across most of the region — Bath dips to near 43°, so keep that in mind for tender plants. No frost risk at these levels, but it’ll feel noticeably cool after today’s warmth, which pushed into the upper 70s and low 80s.

Sunday looks pleasant — partly sunny, seasonable, and dry. Then watch Monday and Tuesday: the NWS is signaling summer-like heat returning to the region.
