A pleasant evening across the Finger Lakes, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 60s under mostly clear skies from Corning to Watkins Glen. A backdoor cold front slipped through the region this afternoon, dropping winds out of the north and northwest and keeping humidity unusually low — readings in the upper 20s to mid-30s. That front is actually the key player this weekend.
Tonight will be quiet and cool, with lows dropping into the low-to-mid 40s by Friday morning. No frost concerns tonight, but keep a light jacket handy.
Friday looks dry through the day, but expect clouds to build by afternoon. The rain arrives Friday night as a shortwave and surface low track along that frontal boundary, continuing through Saturday. Rainfall totals of a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch are expected south of the Thruway — enough to top off streams already running high across the region.
