A 55-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Slate Hill Road in the Town of Marcellus, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 10:10 a.m. on June 21.
A preliminary investigation determined that an 18-year-old driver, Morgan Heise of Chaumont, was operating a 2024 Subaru northbound on Slate Hill Road and had stopped at the intersection with Route 20. Police said Heise then entered the intersection and failed to yield the right-of-way to an eastbound 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The resulting collision ejected both occupants of the motorcycle, a 55-year-old male operator and his 55-year-old female passenger.
Both were transported to Upstate University Hospital. State Police said the female passenger later died from her injuries. The motorcycle operator remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Heise was not injured in the crash.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Marcellus Police Department, Marcellus Ambulance, and the Marcellus Fire Department.
The investigation remains ongoing.
