The Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education is seeking the immediate resignation of its vice president following his arrest on charges related to alleged sexually explicit communications with a child.

In a statement released by the board, members said they were informed by a news outlet at approximately 10 a.m. on Friday that Board Vice President Travis Barr Longo had been arrested.

The board convened later that afternoon with Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio and legal counsel specializing in New York State education law to discuss the situation.

According to the statement, board members unanimously agreed to demand Longo’s resignation, calling it the quickest way to remove him from office. Through the district’s attorney, Longo was given until noon on Monday, June 22, to resign. If he does not do so, the board said it will immediately begin proceedings to seek his removal under New York State Education Law.

Board officials noted that, as an elected official, Longo cannot be removed directly by the board without following the state-mandated process.

“The Board of Education has been shocked, deeply saddened, and outraged by these serious allegations,” the statement said. “Our response reflects the Board of Education’s deep and unwavering commitment to every child’s safety and well-being.”

The board also expressed support for the children and families involved and thanked law enforcement for their work on the investigation.

According to New York State Police, Longo, 46, was arrested following a law enforcement referral received by the Troop D Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Oneida.

Investigators allege Longo engaged in a pattern of sexually explicit communications with a child under the age of 12.  Longo has been charged with four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who were contacted by Longo. Anyone with information is urged to contact the New York State Police at Troop D Headquarters at (315) 366-6000 and reference case number NY2600762245.

The board said it strongly condemns the alleged conduct while acknowledging that it is ultimately the responsibility of the judicial system to determine guilt or innocence.
