Elmira Motorcyclist Killed in Downtown Collision

A 26-year-old Elmira man was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, according to the Elmira Police Department.

Police were called to the intersection of Clemens Center Parkway and Division Street just after 2 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

When emergency crews arrived, they found that a motorcycle and a car had collided.

Investigators identified the motorcycle operator as Hunter Squires, 26, of Elmira. Police said Squires was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the car was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. No information on the extent of the driver’s injuries was immediately released.

Elmira Police officers were assisted at the scene by deputies from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the Elmira Fire Department, and emergency medical personnel.

Police said the driver of the car and witnesses to the crash have been cooperating with investigators.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
