A Wayne County nonprofit that provides food, diapers and other essential items to families in need is asking the community for help funding critical repairs to its facilities.

Helpful Hearts Community Closet, based in Lyons, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for repairs that organizers say are necessary to continue serving residents. The fundraiser will help pay for replacement heating and cooling units and repairs to flooring that has been damaged by the weight of heavy food pallets.

Founder Carolyn Cook said the organization relies on community support to provide food, diapers and household essentials to families across Wayne County. Without the needed upgrades, the pantry’s ability to continue operating could be impacted.

Helpful Hearts Community Closet, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2016, operates a food pantry, thrift store, free clothing and household goods shop, and a heating and cooling center for community members in need.

Donations to the fundraiser can be made through the organization’s GoFundMe campaign. Those with questions can contact Helpful Hearts Community Closet at 315-690-1952 or by email at [email protected].
