The New York State Department of Health will hold a public meeting next week to present the findings of its review of lung cancer rates in northern Seneca County. The meeting is scheduled for July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Seneca Falls Community Center, 35 Water Street in Seneca Falls.

The review was conducted in response to concerns raised by community members and at the request of the Seneca Falls Town Board and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

According to the Health Department, the study examined cancer statistics from 1996 through 2021 for communities surrounding the Seneca Meadows Landfill. The review includes data for the towns of Fayette, Junius, Seneca Falls, Tyre and Waterloo.

During the meeting, Health Department officials will present the report’s findings and answer questions from the public.

Residents with questions about the meeting can contact the Department of Health by email at [email protected].
