Village officials are urging residents to remain vigilant following a reported suspicious interaction involving a child.

According to a notice shared by the Village of Union Springs, officials became aware through social media of a report that a child playing outside was approached by an adult male wearing a baseball hat and allegedly told they would receive candy if they went with him.

Village officials noted the report has not been independently verified, but said the behavior described is concerning.

Residents are being encouraged to stay alert and aware of their surroundings, and to speak with children about safety, including reminding them not to approach or go with strangers.

Officials also urge anyone who observes suspicious activity to contact 911 immediately.

Mayor Robert Thurston Jr. said community awareness and vigilance are key to keeping the village safe.
