Two Children Injured in Alleged DWI Crash in Canandaigua

A Canandaigua woman is facing felony charges after police say she crashed into a light pole while driving intoxicated with two young children in her vehicle.

According to the Canandaigua Police Department, 40-year-old Rosemary Escalera-Martinez was arrested following the crash, which happened around 7:12 p.m. June 22 in the parking lot of 699 South Main St.

Police say an investigation determined Escalera-Martinez was operating the vehicle while intoxicated when she struck a light pole.

Two children, ages 5 and 7, were riding in the back seat at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Escalera-Martinez was charged with felony driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, aggravated DWI, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
