A 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries Tuesday after an electric scooter crash on Johnson Road in the Town of Canandaigua.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. when the teen was riding an electric scooter westbound on Johnson Road and attempted to cross the roadway to enter a driveway.
Deputies said the teen failed to yield the right of way to a westbound 2020 Chevrolet sedan driven by 66-year-old Donna Fox of Prattsburg.
Investigators said Fox attempted to avoid the collision by braking and steering into the oncoming lane, but the passenger-side mirror of her vehicle struck the scooter and its rider as the teen crossed the roadway.
The impact ejected the 14-year-old from the scooter. He suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, head injuries and was transported by Canandaigua Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Authorities said the teen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Fox was not injured.
The Sheriff’s Office said no traffic tickets were issued because the juvenile was determined to be at fault for the collision.
