State Police have released the identity of the person killed in Sunday’s two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 224 and State Route 13 in the Town of Cayuta.

According to an updated release, 31-year-old Prasanna Atlur of New Jersey died after the crash, which occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on July 5.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2023 Tesla, driven by 25-year-old Madhu Mala of New Jersey, was traveling north on State Route 224 when it allegedly failed to stop for a red traffic signal and entered the intersection. The Tesla was then struck by an eastbound 2023 Dodge Charger driven by 52-year-old Bryan Woodworth of Elmira, who was traveling through the intersection with a green light.

Atlur, who was seated in the rear of the Tesla, was transported to Robert Packer Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mala suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to Guthrie Corning Hospital before being transferred to Robert Packer Hospital for additional treatment.

Two other passengers in the Tesla were also identified by State Police. Akhil Valluri, 31, of New Jersey, was transported to Robert Packer Hospital with serious injuries, while 24-year-old Jathin Kolla, also of New Jersey, was evaluated and reported to have no apparent injuries.

Woodworth was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Members of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and Forensic Identification Unit assisted at the scene.
