Seneca County Board of Supervisors is working to fill several vacancies within the county’s Veterans Service Agency, including the director position after the office became fully unstaffed.
According to county officials, Seneca County is currently seeking a director of veterans services, deputy director, two staff resource assistants, and a veterans service officer.
The Board of Supervisors approved a resolution May 12 allowing the county to offer a higher starting salary for the director’s position in an effort to attract qualified candidates.
Frank Schmitter, who chairs the county’s Human Resources Committee, said County Manager Melissa Taylor is coordinating services while the vacancies remain.
Schmitter said veterans needing assistance are currently being directed to the county manager’s office. He noted Taylor is a veteran herself and said assisting veterans remains a priority for the county.
County officials also said veterans offices in Wayne and Ontario counties are helping provide support during the staffing shortage.
Board Chair Mike Enslow said the county plans to base the director’s salary on experience. According to Enslow, the Grade 5 salary scale begins at $67,485 and increases to $89,499 at the top step.
Officials emphasized that despite the staffing vacancies, veterans in Seneca County are continuing to receive services.
