Two Auburn Catholic schools have earned recognition from a nationally known organization that promotes faithful Catholic education.
St. Albert the Great Academy and Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate have been named recommended schools by The Newman Guide, a publication of The Cardinal Newman Society that evaluates Catholic educational institutions across the country.
According to school officials, St. Albert’s and Tyburn are only the second and third schools in New York State to receive the designation.
The Newman Guide has helped Catholic families identify schools that align with Catholic teachings and values for nearly two decades. The guide recently expanded beyond colleges and universities to include elementary and secondary schools, creating what organizers describe as a pathway for Catholic education from kindergarten through graduate school.
βThe model institutions in The Newman Guide have gone through a rigorous review for compliance with Newman Guide policy and curriculum standards, ensuring fidelity to Catholic teaching and the mission of Catholic education,β said Patrick Reilly, president and founder of The Cardinal Newman Society.
School leaders said the recognition reflects each institution’s commitment to Catholic identity, academic excellence, and character formation.
St. Albert the Great Academy serves students from preschool through sixth grade and emphasizes classical learning, moral formation, and Catholic values throughout its curriculum. The school also offers Catechesis of the Good Shepherd programs for younger students.
Tyburn Academy serves students in grades seven through 12 and offers a college preparatory curriculum rooted in the classical liberal arts, mathematics, and sciences. In addition to state academic requirements, students take courses in theology, Latin, art, and music, and may earn honors, college credit, and Franciscan University of Steubenville coursework.
The Cardinal Newman Society said schools recommended by The Newman Guide are evaluated for their adherence to Catholic teaching and their commitment to educating the whole person through intellectual, moral, and spiritual development.
School officials said the designation places both Auburn institutions among a select group of Catholic schools recognized nationwide for excellence in faithful Catholic education.
