Yates County Man Arrested for Allegedly Making More False Mass Shooting Claims

SHARE NOW

A Yates County man has been arrested for allegedly claiming a mass shooting event was taking place in Ontario County.

Last November 24th, Cameron Manley allegedly reported to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office that a mass shooting had occurred at a retail store in Hopewell. An investigation determined no such incident took place. The 21-year-old Keuka Park man was arrested this month by Ontario County authorities and charged with falsely reporting an incident.

Manley was arrested earlier this year for allegedly reporting a similar situation in Yates County.

Just six days before the above incident, Manley allegedly called 9-1-1 to report a mass shooting at the Hampton Inn in the village of Penn Yan.  He has also been accused of using a personal safety reporting app on his phone to report an armed burglary in progress, and an “officer in need of assistance” call to 9-1-1 while impersonating a Yates County deputy.

All instances resulted in a large law enforcement response.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
