An 88-year-old man died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash in the Town of East Bloomfield.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:28 p.m. to 7020 Gauss Road for a reported personal injury accident.

Investigators say James Weisbeck, of East Bloomfield, was the sole occupant of a 2024 Tesla traveling westbound on Gauss Road just west of Ashman Road. Deputies say the vehicle left the roadway and drifted into a field on the north side of the road.

The vehicle continued traveling west through the field before striking a tree at 7020 Gauss Road.

Weisbeck was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the cause of his death remains under investigation.

The New York State Police assisted at the scene. Canandaigua Emergency Squad also responded along with fire departments from Bristol, East Bloomfield, Ionia, and Richmond.

Gauss Road was closed for several hours — from about 1:30 p.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m. — while crews conducted the investigation, crash reconstruction, and cleanup.
