A longtime Cayuga County business is being recognized nationally for its impact and longevity.
New Hope Mills Manufacturing Inc. has been named the National Small Business Week Syracuse District Rural Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Syracuse District Office.
The award honors small businesses that demonstrate leadership, resilience, growth, and a strong commitment to their communities.
With roots in Cayuga County spanning more than 200 years, New Hope Mills has remained a family-owned operation known for its pancake mixes, baking products, café, and country store. The company serves customers locally and across the country while maintaining its historic connection to the region.
“This recognition is truly an honor for our family and for everyone who has been part of New Hope Mills through the years,” said Doug Weed, third-generation owner. “We are proud of where we came from, proud to still be growing here in Cayuga County, and grateful for the loyal customers, dedicated employees, and community support that have made it possible.”
The business continues to be led by multiple generations of the Weed family, with members of the fourth generation now involved in daily operations.
“New Hope Mills has been part of our family’s story for 79 years, and this honor means so much to us,” said Dawn Weed-Korbel, also part of the third generation. “We have always been committed to quality and producing wholesome products; we are proud to feed our own families.”
Originally based in Moravia, the company relocated to Auburn in 2002 and continues to invest in its future while staying closely tied to the Cayuga County community.
An award ceremony will be held at New Hope Mills, 181 York Street in Auburn, on May 7 at 10 a.m., and is open to the public.
