A 42-year-old man lost his hand during a violent incident Sunday night in Rochester, according to authorities.

13WHAM reports officers responded to the area of Joseph and Clifford avenues around 8:20 p.m. for a report of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from what was initially described as an apparent laceration.

According to Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello, the injury was severe enough that it completely severed the man’s hand. Officers at the scene immediately applied a tourniquet before the victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Police said the man’s injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.

Investigators later searched a nearby apartment, where they reportedly found evidence that shots had been fired. Police also recovered an AR-style rifle and a 12-inch fixed-blade knife, according to 13WHAM.

No arrests have been made, and no suspects were in custody as of Monday. The incident remains under investigation.
