Cayuga County’s three state parks will take part in this year’s annual I Love My Park Day celebrations.

On May 2, people from across the Empire State gather at state parks to volunteer their time and talents to help take on a variety of projects to clean, improve, and protect the natural spaces they love.

Fair Haven Beach State Park is hosting a beach cleanup at the Drumlin camping area from 9:00a-12:00p. Volunteers are asked to meet at Sabin Hall and bring garden gloves. Organizers added that all ages can participate and, in the event of inclement weather, Sunday, May 3, has been chosen as a rain date.

Registration for the event can be done here.

Running from 9:00a-12:00p, Fillmore Glen State Park in Moravia has five projects planned for volunteers: gorge trail cleanup, spreading playground chips, removing invasive species, sprucing up flower beds, and stick and trash pickup. Additionally, organizers may have trees to plant and supplies to carry into the gore. Organizers said volunteers should meet at the park’s main pavilion and bring water bottles and gloves. They also said that most projects are suitable for all ages.
Additionally, organizers said the Friends of Fillmore Glen will provide pizza for lunch for all volunteers.
Registration for the Fillmore Glen projects can be done here.
Long Point State Park will hold its event from 9:00a-1:00p on May 2, with a rain date set for the following day. Volunteers can help with trail trimming and cleanup, picking up sticks, removing trash/debris from the shoreline and park, spreading playground chips, and raking stones out of the grass. Organizers said picking up sticks and trash/debris removal are family-friendly activities.
Volunteers are asked to meet in the parking lot to the right of the ticket booth at 2063 Lake Road in Aurora and bring gardening gloves, water bottles, and hand trimmers.
