A Greece man has been sentenced to federal prison for threatening the family of an FBI special agent.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that 48-year-old Steven Ploof was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca to 14 months in prison after being convicted of threatening to assault a member of the immediate family of a federal law enforcement officer.

According to federal prosecutors, Ploof went to the Ogden residence of an FBI special agent and the agent’s family on Sept. 15, 2025. Authorities said Ploof placed two posterboard signs on the front porch of the home.

One sign contained a message accusing the agent of corruption, while the second included a threat directed at the agent’s children.

Investigators obtained video footage from a residential security system that captured Ploof placing the signs on the porch, according to prosecutors.

Federal officials said the threat was made with the intent to impede or retaliate against the FBI agent for performing official duties.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Everardo A. Rodriguez.

As with all criminal cases, a conviction reflects a finding of guilt by a court of law.
